The History of Genesis Tutorial

Children are often looked upon as the future of mankind, the next generation of great leaders, scientists, humanitarians, and educators. Children usually reach these lofty goals when they are provided with resources and well-equipped educational services. Unfortunately, many of the youth in America do not live in this particular demographic.

In January of 1997, while working as a teacher assistant, I noticed that children were struggling to learn the materials and content that the teacher was teaching. Students looked confused, appeared frustrated, and were being ignored by the teacher when they needed questions answered. One student particularly was in tears and felt hopeless. The truth and the most disturbing thing was that this young lady was 12 years old in the 5th grade.

After her class, I reached to her and asked if she needed help. I informed her that I could come to her home after school and help her learn the materials. We set up a meeting with her grandmother and the rest is history. I was able to help her develop the skills she needed to not only solve problems but to pass her grade. She developed confidence and carried her new skills with her to middle school and high school.

Genesis Tutorial was started because there was a need for students to get the extra help to succeed in school. Many students that go off to college and/or university receive extra help in areas of math, science, essay writing, and test-taking skills. These are the same skills and strategies that Genesis Tutorial provides to students from diverse backgrounds.

The mission is to “Help Young Minds to Grow!” The growth we provide is in building academic and social skills. The skills needed to be a productive member of a global society. Genesis has served schools and students in the Raleigh/Durham area since 1997, providing after-school care, tutoring programs, and summer programs.

Our goal is to help young people know they have worth!
